Fall in October #6- Hoheikyu Dam

"This beautiful arched dam surrounded by primeval forests is in the uppermost stream of the Toyohira River. Visitors can see the dynamic flows of water discharged from the dam between June and October. Leaves begin to turn red around mid-September and look beautiful against the steep cliffs with columnar joints."

Located between Sapporo and Otaru, we made our way there on our way to Otaru.

It looks like this in Summer...

However, as the sun was really bright and in our eyes, I can’t take nice picture of the autumn leaves. Not that there were much.. Most of the leaves on the dam have already withered and only branches were left.

Lucky for this….

It made the trip up there worth it.

Fall in October #2 – Shiraoi

Along the way in Shiraoi, we spotted a shop that sells Peku cakes and pasteries.
It's very popular in Japan, but there are no outlets here.

We decided to satisfy our sweet tooth.

everything is so cute! even the pumpkin flavoured pie!

Fall in October #1

We arrived at around 1PM on Monday at New Chitose Airport. Gosh, the temperature really gave us a shock! I know it will be cold, but this is COLD. almst like winter, estimate daily temperature is 1 to 10 degrees, (often just 4 degrees)
Down south, at Hakodate is 16 to 20 degrees and the last day while transiting at Narita airport, Tokyo, the temperature was 23.1 degrees.. even warmer than work.

After getting our car, our tour leader Shao told us that there are a couple of places that is having discounts for admission.
We decided on Northern Horse Park. The horses are HUGE! very different from those at home, these are big, muscular and very pretty. Saw a few independent riders, they look so pro. Initially I wanted to ride a horse (with instructor's assistance) but since it seems that there are no English speaking instuctors around, I decided to give it a miss. No point riding when I can't learn to saddle safely.

Note to self: must try if possible.

After resting in a hot spring hotel (old fashion type) in Norboribetsu, we moved on to Cape Chikyu, Muroran the next day. Cape Chikyu is located at the southern end of Muroran City.
It's really beautiful! Sort of like looking at the end of the globe.

Atop the viewing gallery, there is a bell, ring the bell and it's suppose to bring you happiness.
